Expectations & Requirements for 8th Grade Science
Welcome to 8th grade science! I have been teaching for 23 years and I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year. My goal as a teacher is to make a difference in the lives of all my students and to show how enjoyable and fascinating science can be while preparing for their state test.
Class Assignments and Grading System
- Classwork is split between two types of assessments, formative and summative. Formative assessments are checks points done throughout the learning cycles. They are assessments for learning and used to make decisions on how to promote learning. Please note, formatives are not a part of the student’s overall grade. Summative assessments are a way to gather evidence of student learning. They are a way to measure success and determine a student’s grade.
- Test and quizzes will be announced days prior to the test date. Your student in his/her agenda book should note this. Approximately, three tests will be given during each grading period.
- Labs are imperative to show the application of the content being studied. We will do several labs throughout the nine-weeks. A lab sheet will be completed after each lab.
- Solo is given several times during the week and includes homework that helps to enrich understanding of a concept taught in class.
- Students must turn in all assignments on time. Likewise, late work will result in the deduction of points and missing work will be counted as zero until it is turned in.
